Great Lakes – Adopt a Beach
For our second company outing of the year, we picked up litter on Edgewater Beach and Whiskey Island. It was a bit of a challenge this quarter because we’ve been working towards several tight deadlines in the office. We eventually managed to get some Arkinetics team members out of the office for a couple hours. Together we collected 38.5 pounds of trash! We tracked each type of litter we picked up as part of the Alliance for the Great Lakes adopt a beach program. Data collected will be used in research to develop programs to prevent litter from contaminating our Great Lakes. The oddest pieces of trash? A hatch from a boat and a cutting board. Most frequently found? Cigarette butts and LOTS of small Styrofoam and plastic pieces.
Of course,we had to treat ourselves when we were done with ice cream and beer at the Edgewater Beach House! #GiveBackMoveForward#Adoptabeach #Arkineticsis30 #30years30hours
